Brief
Kothambari restaurant is designed with sensibilities of Kerala architecture overlaid with modern vocabulary. The project is aimed to be contextual to place and time while the language and proportions reflective of vernacular architecture. Set in the midst of the city’s emerging commercial hub, the primary strategy while designing was to create a spatial dimension away from the hustle of the busy highway. The design unfolds in threefold, opening with the more traditional ‘padipura’ reflective of the vernacular architecture of the state. The first dimension of space is an open area leading with a stone pathway toward the building with the euphony of water from the weeping wall on one side and the joyous cacophony of the kids playing in the grass welcoming us with the celebration of our senses.
